DECI

DECI is a private, nonprofit community-based rehabilitation program in Durham County, North Carolina, serving adults with disabilities.  A self-supporting industry, DECI provides superior services to commercial customers.  The revenues earned by DECI's commercial services provide a host of job training and job placement for adults with disabilities, giving these individuals the opportunity to work either at DECI or in the community.

M- F  8:15am - 4:15pm The incumbent is expected to be a self-starter, a good manager of time, work independently and follow DECI’s standards for safety and conduct. Visually inspect and test machines and equipment for proper functionality. Complete preventive maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment like motors, conveyors, production machines, pneumatic tools and engines, electrical systems and/or building systems. Maintain and make routine repairs to electrically powered equipment and appliances according to instruction from supervisor and/or equipment service manuals. Perform repairs on production machines and/or equipment when a malfunction has been detected. May discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem and repair the machine. Assist workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment. It is the role of the machine maintenance technician to identify sources of complications by observing mechanical devices while in operation and tune in for issues by utilizing accuracy and inspection instruments. Follows manufacturer’s instructions, engineering specifications, sketches, operation manuals, and diagrams, to diagnose and troubleshoot abnormalities. Identify causes of equipment malfunctions and plan resolutions. Maintain machinery, equipment, and tools by cleaning, lubricating, greasing, and/or oiling to ensure optimum working order. Develop, coordinate and track project list activities. Examine or carry out tasks on broken machine parts and identify defective parts or give recommendations to supervisors on repair requirements. Perform manual repairs when necessary. Overhaul and repair existing equipment where possible. Control downtime through coordination of routine preventive maintenance techniques Coordinate with outside vendors for large installs and complex repairs. Work autonomously and responsibly, observing all health and safety guidelines Follow applicable quality procedures and work instructions; always be aware of safety and immediately report any unsafe working conditions to the manager or administration. Keep work area clean and orderly, maintain all property, equipment, tools and products in good condition Move and handle supplies, equipment, as well as production materials. Conduct him/herself in a safe manner. Provide safety equipment/instruction and monitor individuals on safety procedures. Report all accidents within 1 hour to manager or administration, including any incident involving property damage, even if no one was injured. Must wear all required PPE properly Clean assigned areas of the building or pieces of equipment as instructed by your Supervisor. Ensure cleanliness of machine and machine components by making use of hose, airguns, solvents, cloths, vacuum or other appliances Work cooperatively with staff and individuals with disabilities Other duties as assigned   OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS Assist in servicing and replacing minor plumbing fixtures. Perform minor electrical work not requiring a licensed electrician such as replacing light bulbs and fuses. Assist in minor carpentry and repair work and general upkeep (painting, etc.) Apply paint, varnish, and stain to all types of surfaces in order to protect and beautify surfaces using appropriate tools and equipment. Inspect alarm systems (fire, protection) and schedule repairs when needed May work among individuals with disabilities to demonstrate general work habits, work methods and model appropriate work behaviors while meeting production goals as defined by the assigned department. Demonstrate and/or perform production tasks. May require repeating motor actions for extended periods.   Participate in DECI-sponsored training as assigned and assist with training new staff. Assist with persons with disabilities, including restraining in an emergency (if NCI certified). Regular attendance is required between the hours of 8:15am and 4:15pm, M-F.
