POSITION: TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR SALARY RANGE: $24.66 TO $36.12 PER HOUR FLSA: NON EXEMPT/FULL TIME UNION: TEAMSTERS UNION LOCAL 325 POSTING DATES: February 4, 2020 through March 2, 2020 All interested candidates must submit a completed District application & resume at http://www.rrwrd.dst.il.us/?page_id=791 This position serves the public through the maintenance and operation of a complex plant, filtration and chemical system which removes pollutants from wastewater and allows for discharge at or below EPA standards. The successful candidate for this position will have a degree in Chemistry, Biology or an associated science in order to be considered for an interview. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES Under the general direction of the Plant Operations Division Manager, this employee performs work of moderate difficulty in the treatment of contaminated water through a series of processes that remove or destroy harmful materials and microorganisms; ensures that the purification process goes smoothly and efficiently, controls pumps, valves and computers that move water through processes; administers and adjusts chemicals as required and pulls samples for testing. REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs ) Knowledge of basic chemistry, mathematics, and wastewater treatment technology; of basic mechanics and electricity. Working skill in following written and verbal instructions, procedures and processes. Ability to learn, understand and implement all federal and state laws regarding clean water. Working skill in performing mechanical operations; in reading charts, meters, and gauges. Demonstrated working skill in determining and solving operational problems and in making good decisions on the proper use of equipment to meet the District's dewatering needs. Ability to exercise good judgment in determining if the Plant Operations management attention is required. Ability to accept responsibility and work independently; to work with and assist management in maintaining and improving operators' productivity. Ability to make minor repairs and to maintain consistent attendance. Knowledge of MS Office Suite or other word processing, spreadsheet and data base software Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the work of the positions. Ability to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects. Ability to provide the highest level of internal and external customer service. Ability to maintain reasonable and customary attendance. Ability to be on-call, work overtime and respond to emergencies as needed. ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry and/or Mathematics required; 3 years’ experience in wastewater preferred. Possession of IEPA Class IV Operator Certification within (3) years from time of hire and a Class I Operator Certification or ability to obtain one within seven (7) years from time of hire. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license at the time of hire with a driving record suitable to the District. Possession of a CDL Class A license not required but strongly encouraged.
